Egypt delays poll results, ousted president in coma

Egypt's election commission delayed the announcement of presidential results scheduled for Thursday, as tension spiked over who will succeed ailing ousted president Hosni Mubarak after moves by the ruling military to extend powers.

"Egypt's election commission, headed by Judge Faruq Sultan... has decided to delay the announcement of the presidential election run-off," the official MENA news agency said late on Wednesday, without giving a new date.

The run-off, which took place on June 16 and 17 pitted Muslim Brotherhood candidate Mohamed Morsi against Mubarak's last prime minister Ahmed Shafiq, with both candidates claiming victory.

The election commission said it was looking into appeals from lawyers of both candidates into alleged campaign violations and disputed vote counting.

The commission said it would "continue examining the appeals... which will require more time before the final results are announced."

The announcement came amid uncertainty over the health of Mubarak, following a flurry of reports about his condition.

Mubarak "is not clinically dead," a medical source told AFP. "He is in a coma and the doctors are trying to revive him."

"He has been placed on an artificial respirator," the source added, in an account confirmed by a member of Egypt's ruling military council, who spoke to AFP on condition of anonymity.

Egypt's state television carried a ticker item saying Mubarak was in "a coma and is not clinically dead."

State news agency MENA had earlier said the ousted strongman, 84, had been declared clinically dead after suffering a stroke in prison and being transferred to hospital.

"Hosni Mubarak is clinically dead," the report said. "Medical sources told MENA his heart had stopped beating and did not respond to defibrillation."

News of Mubarak's failing condition came amid a backdrop of legal and political chaos.

The Brotherhood appeared set on a confrontation path with the ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) which which issued a new constitutional declaration granting itself sweeping powers.

The state-owned daily Al-Ahram summed up the mood saying Egypt was facing "the most critical 48 hours in its history."

Early Monday the Brotherhood said their candidate had won the runoff, and on Tuesday provided what they said were certified copies of ballot tallies to bolster their claims.

But Morsi's rival Shafiq also claimed a victory, with his campaign accusing the Brotherhood of issuing false figures.

A group of independent judges -- headed by the ex-head of the Judges Union, Zakaria Abdel Aziz -- who monitored the voting process confirmed in a news conference that Morsi had won, according to their tally.

The new president, irrespective of the result, will not wield the near-absolute authority Mubarak enjoyed for three decades, after SCAF issued a constitutional declaration on Sunday claiming sweeping powers.

Mubarak's successor will also inherit a struggling economy, increased insecurity and the challenge of uniting a nation divided by the uprising and its deadly aftermath.

Should Mursi win, it will be a real test for the Brotherhood's ability to deal with problems on the ground.

The new dynamics will mean that "SCAF will command the national security of Egypt and leave domestic issues to the president. Any problems and the blame will be shifted to the elected representative," said Joshua Stacher, a political analyst and Egypt expert at Kent State University.

The SCAF's document said it would retake legislative powers from the Islamist-dominated parliament after the country's constitutional court ordered, last week, the body dissolved.

And it grants the military council veto power over the drafting of a permanent constitution, angering activists who denounced the declaration and an earlier order giving the army power to arrest civilians, as a "coup."

The Brotherhood insists the parliament retains legislative power and has pledged to counter the SCAF decisions with "popular activities."

On Tuesday night, the Brotherhood joined a mass demonstration in Cairo's Tahrir square, which attracted over 15,000 protesters, some celebrating Morsi's win as much as denouncing the military move.

The demonstrators were still in the square as the conflicting details of Mubarak's condition filtered in.

"It's divine retribution," said Saber Amr, a teacher. "God doesn't forgive those who do wrong to their people. God doesn't forgive those who kill innocents."

Nearby, Abdel Mottaleb, a Brotherhood supporter, offered a more conciliatory tone, saying "God will judge him."

Mubarak was taken to a Cairo prison on June 2, after a court handed down a life sentence against him over his involvement in the deaths of protesters during the 2011 uprising that pushed him from power.

His health deteriorated after the transfer, with doctors defibrillating him twice earlier this month, and reports saying he was suffering from bouts of depression, high blood pressure and shortness of breath.

Dancers from the Nritya Sangam Dance Company of Las Lomas gave a fine display of their dancing skills.

They whipped up a storm with mixture of Bharat Natyam, Kathak ,Bollywood and Chutney styles.

DJ Junior?s music was a delight. Coming in from the Lopinot Village, he outclassed his DJ pals who had provided music at the sports earlier in the day.

The village calypsonian ?Uncle Benji?? sang a number as the crowd grew larger and larger, with people spilling onto the roadway.

The resident village steelband, Supernovas gave qfine sampling of their musicianship under the guidance of arranger Amrit Samaroo.

Then Rikki Jai brought the curtains down on the celebrations with a medley of songs from his rich repertoire.

Our five Moments of Magic are strategies that help you deliver first-class customer service experiences. In my previous posts, I have discussed MENTAL PSYCHE and THE GREETING. Today, I will cover step #3.

#3. MEETING THE NEED

If a customer is unsatisfied or angry with anything that involves your product or service ? there is one reason: they have a problem that isn?t being solved. If there weren?t a problem, there wouldn?t be a problem, right? Seems pretty simple.

So, unless you identify what that problem is, you will have a hard time remedying what?s gone wrong. This step is about how to do that well.

Patience and urgency are ironically the balance you need to master during this step. Don?t rush into fixing what you see the problem to be, but rather, take your time, so that you solve what the customer perceives the problem to be. And once you know what it is, give the customer the impression that you will fix it ASAP! If you take a laissez-faire approach to their problem, you won?t impress your customer. And if you fix only what you think is wrong, you may waste time on the wrong thing. So, do it right, and do it right now!

How do you do this well?

Be a good listener. Hear and understand what they are saying.
Ask good questions. Dig deeper if you aren?t getting the information you need.
Help with sincerity. Be genuine and solely focused on them.
Take notes and summarize. Recap what you?ve heard the customer say, so that you can determine whether or not you understood everything accurately.
Take the customer seriously. Respect the customer, even if you see the problem to be minor. Customers can sense when you?re belittling their concern.

This step involves a level of curiosity and creativity. You need to figure out how to find out what you don?t know, and then you need to brainstorm how you?re going to fix the customer?s frustration. It?s not about rushing to conclusions or solutions ? it?s about connecting with the customer, caring about her concern, and controlling what you can.

It's hard to imagine a time when there wasn't a Morgan Freeman on our screens. The Oscar-winning actor, who turns 75 today, has been performing since he was 9 years old and in the ensuing years he's used his sonorous, commanding voice and soulful, charismatic presence to play dozens of roles -- God, the president, a convicted criminal, a chauffeur and an easy-reading hipster, just to name a few.

Freeman has a versatility that can make him menacing, warm, superhero-like and an everyman -- he's never gotten typecast. Sure, he's played his share of sidekicks (sometimes while appearing with Thursday's birthday boy and friend Clint Eastwood in movies like "Unforgiven" and "Million Dollar Baby") but Freeman is the rare actor who can ease straight into the driver's seat of a film (literally in "Driving Miss Daisy"), and no one blinks.

Though he's made some headlines recently -- no, he's not going to marry his step-granddaughter -- there's no question that the Memphis-born Freeman remains one of Hollywood's most beloved actors. In the end, there's no question that you fell in love with his talent and abilities -- the question is only when it happened.?

First of all, make sure that you have someone with you at all times to help hold the ladder and to be on standby in case you should need help. Meanwhile ensure that you wait for good weather before you attempt to get on the roof and don?t rush it. Finally, never ?reach? across the roof and make sure that as you progress along you take the time to climb down, move the ladder, and then climb up again. Otherwise you can tip the ladder and fall.

Building Your Own Items

When working with wood it?s important to take precautions to avoid hurting yourself. For one you should always invest in some thick leather gloves and this way you can avoid hammering a nail into your finger or sawing it. At the same time you should look into using goggles which can prevent wood chippings etc. from getting in your eye.

The other potential risk when making your own furniture and working with wood is that you end up creating a piece of furniture that is dangerous. One precaution to take that some people forget here is to sand down corners which can be sharp and cause you to cut yourself or cause a splinter ? so make sure you remember that.

The other issue is that people build furniture that can?t hold the weight that it needs to ? this might cause a chair or a bench to collapse and cause you to fall, or it might result in a bookshelf falling apart and injuring someone by bombarding them with books. The solution is to ensure that you design your furniture to take at least three times the weight that you expect it to need to stand up to, and that you ensure that you test your furniture too under safe circumstances before going on to use it day-to-day.

Finally moving things around your rooms can be quite dangerous as this can cause you to pull a muscle, slip a disk or generally injure yourself. It?s important here to make sure that you practice proper lifting technique and that means that you should always squat down and then push through your legs to lift ? never use your back to bear the weight and aim to keep it straight at all times.

More precautions when lifting are to make sure you have both hands underneath the object to support it and to get help lifting whenever something seems like it could be too heavy.
