Coven: Salem 1692

Ok, so first of all, yes I know the info on the main page is very short and I hate that but...I couldn't think of an intriguing way to say everything that I wanted to say.

The point of this RP is to tell the struggle of the Witch Trials from their point of view. To show how what was just magic and gifts got twisted into something that people feared so much they were sentencing innocents to be burned to death.

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns feel free to state it in the comments and I will keep a collection of what's been mentioned here:

New iPhone 5S part leaks show potential fingerprint sensor component

More iPhone 5S component leaks show potential fingerprint sensor component

This morning we were passed along some interesting photos containing more components that could belong to the iPhone 5S. Most notably, a revised Home button cable that ditches the traditional contacts and adds a different kind of attachment as well as a dock that could be slightly revised from the current iPhone 5 dock. The interesting part is the amount of pins on the connector for the Home button assembly. There seem to be ten pins total shown in the photo and from what we know about past models, there's no need for an iPhone Home button to have that many pins unless it's performing some other type of function current iterations aren't capable of.

The flex cable contact looks similar to the iPhone 5 and would line up with the dock so it's possible it could be an unfinished version or a cable that got scrapped as a prototype. We can't be sure at this point.

While the dock connector doesn't seem to be revised too much, there are slight differences by the screw threads that make it different enough that it most likely isn't the same dock found in the iPhone 5. Considering the iPhone 5C chassis is more narrow, this dock wouldn't fit it which leaves the iPhone 5S as the most likely culprit.

The other components in the photo are a little less interesting but still worth taking a look at what they are. The second cable from the left appears to be a power button flex assembly which would control not only power but volume and mute switch functionality. No differences really than what we see in the current iPhone 5. To the far right, we have what looks like an antenna system that has solder points that would connect to the logic board. Nothing too exciting as this is about the same as what we see at the top of the board in the iPhone 5. The antenna is then screwed into the top of the frame. This most likely will be the same in the iPhone 5S if these components are indeed legitimate.

Considering the current generation iPhone 5 doesn't have a Home button cable that even comes close to resembling this one, it could indicate that this cable can handle more functionality than previous iterations. The iPad 4 cable is long like this one but the connection type is completely different and unlike anything we've seen in an any kind of iOS device as far as Home buttons are concerned. A fingerprint sensor could be a selling point for Apple over the cheaper iPhone 5C so it isn't unreasonable that a feature like this would make an appearance to differentiate their flagship line over the cheaper model.

As always, we won't know for sure until Apple makes an announcement on September 10th. Thanks to the guys over at mendmyi for helping us get ahold of these photos and analyze the parts!

GOP pushes rising stars amid calls for solutions

BOSTON (AP) ? Republican officials are looking to promote a fresh group of diverse rising stars to help resolve their election woes, while frustrated party elders insist that all Republicans must offer more solutions for the nation's most pressing issues.

A tug of war over the Republican Party's future continues as conservative activists and party leaders from across the country gather in Boston for the Republican National Committee's annual summer meeting.

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich tells the group that Republicans have to get beyond being "anti-Obama" and says that congressional lawmakers have no answer for how they would replace the president's health care bill even though they've repeatedly voted to repeal it.

Meanwhile, there is little sign of GOP unity on solutions for immigration, health care or a looming budget standoff.

British cat DNA database helps convict killer

(AP Photo / Naomi Koppel)

(AP) ? Fingerprints are not the only thing that killers can leave behind ? add cat hair to that list.

A British university said Wednesday that its DNA database of British felines helped convict a man of manslaughter, illustrating how the genetic material of pets can be used by crime scene investigators.

"This is the first time cat DNA has been used in a criminal trial in the U.K.," said Jon Wetton from the University of Leicester. "This could be a real boon for forensic science, as the 10 million cats in the U.K. are unwittingly tagging the clothes and furnishings in more than a quarter of households."

Although drawing DNA from human hair, saliva, or blood samples has long been a part of crime scene investigations, animal material has also provided invaluable clues. The Veterinary Genetics Laboratory at the University of California, Davis, has used animal DNA to catch criminals for more than a decade ? including one case in London in which blood left at the scene of a nightclub stabbing was matched to a murder suspect's bull terrier.

In the latest case in Britain, investigators tapped the same lab to identify the cat hair discovered around the dismembered torso of David Guy, 30, who was found hidden in a trash bag on a British beach in July 2012. Detectives matched the hair to a cat belonging to the man's friend, David Hilder, but because the genetic material was mitochondrial DNA ? which can be shared among large number of animals ? the strength of the match couldn't be known.

That's where the cat DNA database came in.

Wetton ? who had previously helped to set up a similar database for dogs ? worked with doctoral student Barbara Ottolini to create a repository of cat DNA for the Hilder case. They gathered samples of mitochondrial DNA from 152 felines across England over a six-week period.

"Only three of the samples obtained matched the hairs from the crime scene," Wetton said, suggesting that while the match wasn't perfect, it was still a pretty good indication the hairs on the torso came from Hilder's cat.

"No one's going to be convicted on this alone, but if it's helping to reinforce other sorts of evidence then you can paint a picture in the jury's mind," Wetton said.

In this case there was a host of additional evidence ? including traces of Guy's blood discovered at Hilder's residence in Southsea, in southern England ? and it was enough to secure the 47-year-old's conviction.

On July 30, Hilder was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum of 12 years before he is eligible for parole.

Authorities said in statements after the trial that Hilder and Guy's relationship ? and the motive for the latter's killing ? remain unclear. The two were neighbors, but prosecutors described their relationship as "love/hate" and said the violence may have even been spurred by an argument over the cat.

Wetton said he hoped the cat DNA database could serve in future cases.

As for the cat itself ? Tinker ? police said it was alive and well and living with new owners.

ADP report: Service sector gaining jobs in Illinois

A monthly job growth by ADP showed that the service sector is growing in Illinois, but manufacturing is stagnant.

According to ADP's July regional employment report, Illinois added 7,280 private-sector jobs in the month. The growth came entirely from the service sector, which more than offset losses in construction and manufacturing. The service sector added 8,710 jobs in July in Illinois, while goods production industries lost 1,430 jobs.

By selected industries, professional and business services added 2,610 jobs, while trade transportation and utilities grew by 1,520. Mining and construction lost 1,060 jobs and manufacturing shrank by 360.

ADP is one of the largest payroll and tax filing processors in the world.

US spirits sales lift Diageo's full-year profits

LONDON (AP) ? Drinks company Diageo PLC says rising spirits consumption in the U.S. helped its profit in the year to end-June to swell by 28 percent to 2.48 billion pounds ($3.79 billion).

Diageo, whose brands include Johnnie Walker whiskey, Smirnoff vodka and Guinness stout, said Wednesday that sales rose 6.1 percent to 15.48 billion pounds from a year earlier.

Sales in North America, its biggest market, were up 5 percent. In emerging markets, there was double-digit growth, including an 18 percent rise in Latin America and 11 percent in Asia. Sales in Western Europe fell 5 percent, however, amid the ongoing economic malaise.

Chief executive Ivan Menezes says effective marketing has been a key driver in whisky sales ? Diageo's biggest and most profitable category.

Syria troops 'retake' key Homs area

Syrian government forces have fully captured a district that was a key rebel stronghold in the central city of Homs, state media report.

The Sana news agency said the military had "completely restored security and stability to Khalidiya neighbourhood".

Activists reported clashes in Khalidiya on Monday morning, but said that most of the area was under army control.

The announcement comes a month after troops launched an offensive to oust rebels from Syria's third largest city.

Only the Old City and a few other districts are still held by the opposition.

On Sunday, the pan-Arab TV station al-Mayadeen broadcast footage of Khalidiya, showing heavily damaged buildings and piles of rubble.

Homs has been a focus of the two-year uprising against President Bashar al-Assad, in which the UN says more than 100,000 people have died.

The Google Maps of the Week

Yarr, Pirate Maps uses the Google Maps API to create a distinct pirate themed map, complete with animated waves, birds and pirate ships. There may not be much serious intent behind the map but I am impressed by the results and the imaginative use of the Google Maps API elevation service and the Google Places library.

One impressive feature on this map is how the ship and wave map markers are only placed in the sea, the sea-gulls only appear near the shore and trees only appear in parks. The elevation service of the Maps API is being used to determine sea and shore locations. The Google Places API is being used to find the locations of parks.

Alex Wellerstein's NukeMap has proved to be a very popular Google Maps mashup. The application allows users to view the likely effect of different sized nuclear explosions on any location in the world, using Google Maps.

Much of its popularity comes from the fun of blowing places up on a map. I mean what could be better than that?

Blowing things up in 3d - that's what. Alex Wellerstein's new app, NukeMap3D, uses the Google Earth browser plug-in to allow users to detonate nuclear bombs on their chosen location and view the effect in glorious 3d.

Now you can view the effect of your dastardly deeds mushrooming above the 3d buildings of the cities you target. If you select the 'animate mushroom cloud' option you can even view a slow motion animation of your bomb exploding.

SaferRoute is an interesting attempt to create a route planner that avoids areas with a record of high crime. Using crime data from Lothian and Borders Police Reports, this Google Maps app will return travel directions, for Edinburgh, Scotland, that try and avoid crime hotpsots in the city.

If you enter two addresses into the app you will be shown a Google Map with two routes highlighted. The safest route is shown in green on the map and the fastest route is shown in red. Beneath the map turn-by-turn directions are also given, with each street on the journey given a safety rating.?

Golf: Snedeker takes advantage of Mahan exit

Brandt Snedeker holds a one shot lead going into the final round of the Canadian Open after a dramatic day in Ontario.

Snedeker takes advantage of Mahan exit

Following an early rain delay the tournament was turned on its head as overnight leader Hunter Mahan decided to withdraw from the field due to his wife going into labour.
Snedeker took full advantage, firing nine birdies to move to 14-under-par, one clear of Daniel Lingmerth, while Matt Kuchar and Jason Bohn are a further stroke behind.
The 32-year-old has already won this season, taking victory at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, and says he is feeling confident going into the final day.
"I know how to handle it and I know what to expect [today], especially on a golf course like this," said Snedeker. "I know what I have to do.
"I knew I had a chance if I could keep the momentum going after the first six holes and I could really ride it out and do something special today."

Apple?s New Budget iPhone Called the iPhone 5C?

Apple 5C

Everybody is wondering what the Apple will name its new, lower cost, iPhone. ?I call it the iBudget in jest, but we all know Apple would NEVER associate the word budget, cheap, or economy with any of their products. ?The website?WeiPhone.com, released a picture with a bin of, what can only be described, as some sort of packaging with the name iPhone 5C.

iPhone 5C

We have heard the name iPhone Lite thrown around, but that?contentation may not suit Apple?s image either. ?Another site, iLounge.com, had predicted it would be called the iPhone 5C, although why Apple would chose the letter ?C? I am not sure?it could mean ?C?olor,? low ?C?ost,? plasti?C,? or ?C?heap!

We expect Apple to make an announcement, for both the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C, in late Summer, followed by a September release date. ?Let us know in the comments if you are waiting for either of these two new Apple iPhones.

girl sleeping in bed bluffdale utah listing

So many of you have been sending me so many bad mls photos lately that sometimes I don?t know whether to laugh, cry, or curl up in a fetal position like?this poor woman. It?s crazy to me that agents are still trying to sell houses with pics like this. Here are 5 of my (least) favorites of the week?

trash in bathroom Utah listing

1. It probably won?t surprise you to learn that this messy bathroom was featured in the same listing as the bedroom above. Looks like a nice house if you can see past all the dirty clothes, piles of trash, and general clutter. I had an agent tell me it?s not his job to clean up the house before taking photos. Okay, but could you at least close some of the drawers first? Kick the bags of trash out of the way? Anything?

blurry house photo Pittsburgh listing

2. This photo from a listing in Pittsburgh is so blurry I?m not sure why the agent bothered posting it?and only it?to represent a house ?that has recently been updated and is move-in ready.? Guess we?ll take his word for it!

grandpa in the listing burbank

3. The advice to depersonalize your home for potential buyers includes removing the persons. When people pop up in the listing photos, that?s all we see, and this one from Burbank is a good (bad) example.

bloody footprints plymouth MN

4. One reader questioned why there appears to be a trail of bloody footprints across the floor in an otherwise perfectly normal-looking house in Minnesota.

bad-mls-houston-indoor-snow-1

5. The only other time I saw visible floating dust-snow like this was in a former hoarder?s house. This house doesn?t look as filthy as that one did, though, so I?m not sure what?s going on. WTF Real Estate found this in the Houston listings.

Thanks to all the readers who submitted these. If you spot something strange in the real estate listings, send me the link! -Julia

6 Categories to Help You Decide on Themed wedding invitations

In case you? ve looked at a wedding card site lately, you realize just how several choices exist for that modern bride. Narrowing down the field is irritating at first, but knowing the basic categories of invitation could make things easier. For your perusal and guidance, consider the following six types of wedding invitations:

  1. Classic: Like most wedding gowns, these invites come in white-colored. Common features include embossing and ribbons. For the most part, they have got one accent colour. Simple, elegant, and always fitted, a person can? t make a mistake with classic invites. Unless you desire something snazzier. When this occurs, you should think about the following option.
  2. Contemporary: The rule with modern or contemporary credit cards is simple: split expectations. These invites come in unusual shapes, such as circles and pointed rectangles. Colors perform a larger part, as do geometric patterns and photos. These cards provide bold introductions to the wedding.
  3. Picture: This is the most individual option of any obtainable. Images range in proportions from full distribute to main highlight. Based on the photo you choose, you can make any type of atmosphere in your card that you like. It? ersus completely customizable.
  4. Fashionable: This category is always changing, but for the moment, bright water color washes are totally in. The backs of these cards display beautiful, bright stripes and flowers of colour. Distinct, stylish, and fun, these cards are perfect for a cheery summer wedding.
  5. Classic: There? ersus nothing wrong with getting back an older really feel to your credit cards. Vintage looks differ from the quaint for the lush. The common theme is usually subtle coloring that soothes instead of shocks.
  6. Whimsical: If your wedding will be mild and cheery, think about the cards to fit. These credit cards come in wide range. They generally rely on shows, humorous drawings, and amusing phrases. Simple or complicated, they can match even the quirkiest of needs.
  7. Minimalist: You may also opt for a very simplified design that uses the particular natural beauty of your font without any extra colors or even patterns to disturb. These invitations are extremely in now and are surprisingly affordable as well.
  8. Handy: Crafty wedding invite designers will integrate bow into the invitation alone, or create custom wedding invitation stamps and also stamp out their invites on cardstock. Pockets, folds, seals, and more are available with wedding packages, but you have to put in the time and also attention to make certain that your invites come out looking ideal.
