It is recommended that you exercise 30 minutes per day, most days of the week to maintain optimum health. Exercise can help keep muscles strong and can help maintain appropriate heart health.
But who has extra time each day for 30 minutes of exercise? Who can actually make it to the gym for that cardio workout given the average person's hectic schedule?
New research indicates that engaging in an active lifestyle can be just as beneficial as going to the gym on a regular basis. An active lifestyle, like taking the stairs or doing yardwork, can help control blood pressure and high cholesterol.
The study, published in the American Journal of Public Health, examined over 6000 people and compared those who exercised >10 minutes per session versus those who exercised
The results indicated no difference between certain metabolic markers for those people who exercise all at once or for those who exercise in small bouts throughout the day. So, if you simply take the stairs or vigorously vacuum the rug, you can count that as exercise and enjoy the health benefits that come from a health lifestyle.
